Litter is a pervasive problem throughout the city, and Walnut Creek Wetland Park is no exception. Instead of devoting one day to the Earth this month, we will have a series of cleanup events! This particular event is geared towards the more adventurous volunteer. We will be traveling deep into the wetland to retrieve trash that washes in during heavy rain events. We will wear boots and/or waders (feel free to bring your own).
Impact:
We cannot do this all alone. Your help is helping to not only beautify the park, but to create a more sustainable ecosystem.
Volunteer Duties:
Removing litter from sidewalks and greenways within the park. Boots will be provided.
Work Environment:
We will be outdoors deep in the wetland in areas that may have shallow standing water, and may have deep mud. It may be a 5 - 10 minute walk from the center, and bathrooms will not be available during the session. Woodland travel will be on uneven terrain that may have small stumps, roots, debris and vegetation.
Volunteer Requirements:
All volunteers must be at least 16 years old. All volunteers must sign a waiver. Volunteers under 18 years of age must have a release form signed by their parent/guardian. All volunteers must undergo a short wellness check that includes a few questions and a temperature check. All volunteers will be required to wear masks/face coverings.
Other Instructions:
Volunteers should dress to be outdoors in clothes that can get wet, messy or torn. Volunteers should bring a refillable water bottle, work gloves, and any school service hour forms they may require. Volunteers may bring their own waterproof boots and waders, or may borrow ours (limited wader sizes.
COVID-19 Policy:
Volunteers and staff must follow the COVID-19 policies below so that projects are safe for everyone.
- Social distancing must be practiced (6-feet between individuals)
- Individuals must participate in infrared temperature checks upon arrival
- Everyone must wear a face mask or face shield (not provided)
- State, federal, and local mandates must be followed
- If you have been out of state two weeks prior to the event, please do not register
