FOOD FOR THE CURE

Image_202102160608

Food for the Cure grows organically at the St. Peter and All Saints Episcopal organic community garden every year, This year we have doubled our space to grow organic produce for Cancer Patients which means double the work. We run on 100 percent volunteers and we need you more than ever. We do follow spacing Covid-19 guidelines. Since it's outside masks are not required as long as we can space out from each other properly, but feel more than welcome to wear one at all times if you like. We do always wear a mask when making delivers to our Cancer Patients. Safety First!

For our needs, we need gardeners that can help setup, plant, and weed the garden! The more volunteers we have the easier it will be for everyone! I would like to give a different section of the garden to weed and upkeep to each volunteer. All this can be done either on your own time or on Saturdays that we meet. The only time we would like you to be here on a Saturday would be on a setup or planting day. We will greatly appreciate your help in this matter. Thank you!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create programs that teach people how organic food may improve our health and to give free organic food to cancer patients in the Kansas City Metro Area.

Description

Here at Food for the Cure we are a small non profit with a huge heart. We currently grow an organic style garden at the organic community garden located at the St. Peter and All Saint Episcopal Church (located in the Red Bridge Area) every year. We take all the organic produce that we grow and give it to Cancer Patients that would like to have it to help in their battle with cancer completely free of charge. In 2020 we were able to give 220 pounds of food to 7 Cancer Patients. In 2021 we were allowed to expand to 2 whole plots. That will measure a whopping 48'x30'. We run on 100 percent volunteers and now more than ever we need your help with the garden. So please signup and volunteer today! With the power of Community we can.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Orientation or Training
  • We would like to have volunteers that can come to the garden at least once a week. We would also like to see a lot of them show when we setup and plant the garden for each season. We will send out dates ahead of time for the major days.
  • The main requirement is to have a little knowledge about gardening. Organic Gardening knowledge is always a plus, but not necessary as it's easy to learn. We also have some waivers and papers to sign before you start gardening away.
