This is a fully remote position.
In addition to researching and writing grant proposals on behalf of Helpful, this position will assist in every aspect of the grant lifecycle - from maintaining the grants calendar to monitoring the application process and tracking various deadlines.

Responsible for drafting and submitting Letters of Inquiry for foundation, corporate, and government grants;drafting language for proposals and reports.
Updating progress in grant Tracker.
Requests will be for both general operating support as well as program and project-specific requests.
Major Responsibilities:
Draft and submit Letters of Inquiry and proposals as requested by the Director of Development and CEO Assist Director of Development with gathering supporting documents and attachments for proposals
Edit and proofread content
Perform prospect research on new foundation, corporate and government grant opportunities
Assist with other development and communications as necessary and able
Research potential new foundation and corporate funding sources that align with Helpful’s program areas and mission
Help maintain a schedule of upcoming letters of intent (LOI), grant applications, and reporting deadlines and tasks.
Work with Director of Development and Director of Organizational support to determine the priority of grant proposals to be written.
Write concise, clear, and persuasive fundraising materials, including drafting of letters of inquiry (LOI), proposals, and reports for foundation and corporate funding sources;
Review, edit, and finalize each document for submission on a timely basis;
Research and collect data and study findings to support grant proposals and reports.
Special attention should be made in checking for completeness against grant instructions, spelling, grammar, and style; and to ensure compliance and regulatory requirements.
Respond to inquiries from funders and programs strategically and in a timely manner based on guidance of the Director of Development
Reviews, summarizes, and tracks data on grant awards received in database and file formats.
Prepares timely acknowledgment letters and accurate reporting.
Oversee and track all grant milestones including, but not limited to; proposals in development, proposals submitted to funders, proposals that have been issued or canceled, deliverable deadlines, communication, and awards, in donor tracking software, ensuring that all content is complete and up to date at all times.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Preferred Qualifications:
BA or equivalent experience; preferably in a liberal arts, social science, or other writing-heavy subject. Minimum two years of related experience/skills preferred (outstanding applicants with other relevant experience/skills such as journalism, project management, and/or academic research will be considered). Excellent written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals quickly to meet internal and external deadlines
Strong editing and proofreading skills
Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
Ability to work well independently.
Ability to interpret complex grant funding requirements, submissions, and budget projections.
Ability to prioritize, organize, manage multiple tasks to meet specific deadlines, and readjust priorities as changes happen.
Strong attention to detail.
Good organizational skills and follow-through.
Ability to manage deadlines, multiple projects, and competing priorities.
Demonstrated ability to write clear, compelling proposals that resulted in funding.
Understand and use data in assessing program outcomes.

Helpful Engineering is a 3,400 strong volunteer-run nonprofit incubator organization, with engineers, scientists, and doctors around the world dedicated to helping the world address the COVID-19 pandemic. Relying on the resourcefulness and grit of our members, we work to design innovative ways to fight the virus that causes this disease. We have partnered with medical professionals to know what would help them the most in this crisis, rapidly trying to design and arrange the production of pragmatic devices to move life-saving air, extend existing tools, or organize volunteers on the ground to bolster medical workers. The need is critical. Important but complex rules usually make these products unavailable, if unburdened, we can make them available now.
