We are seeking volunteers who can ideally make an ongoing weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly commitment at our St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry in Lincoln Park.
2 volunteers needed on Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. to help with our client shopping days. Volunteers help set up the store, greet and welcome shoppers, help with registration, accompany shoppers through the food sections, and restock/clean/assist with projects as needed.
2-3 volunteers needed on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. to help receive, unload, and organize our deliveries from the Greater Chicago Food Depository. (This is a non-participant-facing role.) Depending on the size of the delivery and the number of volunteers, end time may be earlier than 1:00 p.m.
Volunteers should be able to stand/be on their feet for 3 hours at a time, lift/carry at least 15-20 lbs., reach at/above shoulder height, bend/reach from the waist. We are looking for people who enjoy being part of a team, collaborating, have a "customer service" attitude, respect the dignity of those in vulnerable or insecure positions, and will support our mission to strengthen, empower and give voice to those in need.
