Employer : Boston Education, Skills & Training (BEST) Hospitality Training Center

Medford (Wellington Station), MA and the Omni Seaport Hotel. Since March 2020, all of our services have been virtual. We will re-open in-person when/if it makes sense.

Organization :

We are a non-profit education and training program for hospitality workers in Boston. The majority of our students are adult immigrants who work in Boston’s union hotels. Our mission is to provide our students with the skills and training to excel in the hospitality industry and in their personal lives.

Position Description:

BEST Hospitality Training is looking for 2022 summer inter ns for 20-25 hours/week. The position is primarily a remote position. Th e intern’s duties and projects will be designed in collaboration with his/her supervisor and will depend on the individual’s interests, skills, and experience .

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing online one-on-one tutoring to students in English, citizenship, technology skills
  • Assisting t eachers in online English /citizenship/tech classes and workshops
  • Assist with class preparation, administrative duties, and more.

BEST will capitalize on the strengths that an intern brings to the table and we look forward to helping future interns develop their skills through projects that interest them mos t. Other potential projects co uld include:

  • Creating a student journal to document class projects
  • Planning and leading an English class or a workshop, depending on previous teaching experience
  • Developing content for BEST website, including photos, videos and client profiles




  • Assisting students and clients with job search and job applications
  • Helping teachers check in with individual students and provide one-on-one assistance where necessary

Last year, our summer interns created and led workshops about Balancing Work and Personal Life, and Critical Thinking. They also helped to teach our Citizenship class, planned a virtual end-of-cycle celebration, created our first digital student journal, revised our online teaching resources, assisted students with job searching and job applications, offered individual technology support, helped teachers check in with individual students, etc.

Experience that is helpful :

  • Tutoring or teaching experience
  • Knowledge of a second language
  • Familiarity using virtual meeting platforms and online teaching/learning tools

Compensation :

This position is not paid however BEST is happy to support the proposal of any applicant for funding through their college or university. In addition, BEST offers valuable experience in teaching, working with nonprofits, technology, and much more.

This internship will allow applicants to gain professional work experience in a collaborative and team environment, online adult education teaching or tutoring experience with a diverse population, basic database skills using Salesforce, interpersonal and communication skills, administrative and organizational skills, leadership and class management skills.

BEST Hospitality Training is the education provider for members of the Local 26 hotel workers union. We offer English, GED, Citizenship, and Computer classes, as well as Food Server, Room Attendant, and Culinary Training. Our students come from all over the world. We are proud of the warm, inviting atmosphere we have created here, and look forward to having more volunteers become a part of it.
