Want to make a difference?
Volunteers 65 and older are needed to connect virtually with local NYC high school and middle school students who are themselves looking for intergenerational connections during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rather than being a one size fits all program, there are many service options to choose from for anyone looking to share wisdom and friendship in a large group, small group, or one-on-one setting. Examples include virtually visiting a middle school classroom for fun, engaging activities; joining the organization's teen interns in teen-led discussion groups, book clubs, small group creative arts programming, etc.; and playing virtual chess. No matter what, kids and older adults are provided the all-too-rare opportunity to be together, enjoy one another’s company, and gain insight into each other’s lives.

Mission Statement
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.
Description
AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
