Are you intrigued by the idea of serving at a nonprofit environmental education organization dedicated to educating children and adults in the New York metropolitan area; protecting and preserving a park, other open spaces, and waterbodies; and advocating for sustainable environmental policies and practices? If so, why not sign up to assist one or more teachers who work with students ages 4 to 12? No training is necessary and topics vary session to session so you will never get bored. This season, classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and the weekends at 10:00 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:30 pm. This is an IN-PERSON assignment in Oakland Gardens, Queens.

Mission Statement

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City was started in 1966 by the Community Service Society (CSS), an over 170-year-old nonprofit agency. CSS's mission is to identify problems which create a permanent poverty class in New York City, and to advocate the systemic changes required to eliminate such problems. CSS will focus on enabling, empowering and promoting opportunities for poor families and individuals to develop their full potential, to contribute to society, and to realize social, economic, and political opportunities.

Description

AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP in New York City matches adults 55 and older with meaningful volunteer opportunities at New York City nonprofits. With more than 2,300 volunteers, our program is one of the largest senior volunteer programs in the nation. There are over 600 of us which operate nationally and many that do so internationally. We match volunteers on the basis of interests and abilities, community needs, geographic convenience, and experience.
