Community Engagement Coordinator

Position Overview:

Needpedia seeks to empower people all over the world, and thus far has done exceedingly well at attracting volunteer devs, however, we still haven’t learned how to effectively organize them. We’ve been using a personalized onboarding approach where we ask volunteers what their interests are, then identify work we need help with, and assign a task that they seem to be happy with. But then, in isolation, they just give up before producing anything or interacting with anyone, and leave us right back where we started, (in terms of building community. -Software development’s been going fine, Needpedia itself is almost done. Now we need to create a community of volunteer devs to support each other and our users as they share tech related ideas for the world, which will require dev’s feedback and support).

*Please note that anyone interested in this role without experience should still contact us as we plan on organizing far more than software developers. -Our average user will be a layperson, but we’ll need to organize artists and all other kinds of specialists too. We’re just focused on organizing devs right now but will need to start creating content and other things now that the site’s almost finished

In other words, we're looking for a Community Engagement Coordinator to nurture and grow our volunteer community. This role is perfect for someone who loves building relationships, fostering a sense of belonging, and creating engaging experiences for volunteers. You'll be the bridge between individual volunteers and the larger mission of Needpedia.org, ensuring that everyone feels valued, supported, and connected.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement strategies to increase volunteer engagement and retention.
• Organize virtual meetups, workshops, and social events for volunteers.
• Manage our Discord task-group channels, encouraging conversation and collaboration.
• Highlight volunteer contributions through social media shoutouts and our internal newsletter.
• Provide support and resources to volunteers to help them succeed in their roles.

Qualifications:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in community management or volunteer coordination.
• A passion for building and nurturing online communities.
• Creative thinking with the ability to come up with new engagement ideas.
• Familiarity with Discord and social media platforms.
