Mission Statement

The mission of Boomers Leading Change is to mobilize, connect and empower Adults 50+ to utilize their skills, experience, passion and energy to create positive, lasting social change.

Description

Boomers Leading Change (BLC) opened it's doors in 2010 to support the Boomer generation in rewriting a positive narrative of aging. BLC partners with over 40 host organizations across Metro Denver to address issues that affect an individual's ability to get and stay healthy.

These high-impact positions serve populations from young children to frail elderly and long-time Denver residents to immigrants new to the community. Environments range from formal (for example health clinic) to on the ground grassroots organizations and everything in between.

There are two pathways for volunteering:
Boomer Volunteers is for individuals who are interested in contributing 3-6 hours weekly.
AmeriCorps Encore, the only program in CO, is for individuals age 55+ able to commit 10 or 20 hours weekly. It is an 11-month program which includes a stipend and an education credit upon completion.

BLC also offers a pathway for learning.
Colorado Encore Network is a monthly gathering for educational presentations, animated discussions and the opportunity to connect with other adults age 50+.

The Action Academy is an ongoing series of two-hour sessions taught by experts from community organizations. Participants learn practical skills on the most effective ways to make their voices heard, as well as education information on a variety of important issues.
