Join the Franconia Sculpture Park volunteer program and contribute to our mission to create an inclusive haven for artists and visitors to contemplate and create contemporary art inspired by nature and the changing world we inhabit. Volunteers are an essential and valued part of Franconia Sculpture Park’s operations.

Franconia Sculpture Park is looking for dedicated and hardworking volunteers to donate time at the Franconia Commons Visitor Center and with special events. No art experience is needed, just a passion for supporting Franconia’s mission.

General overview of the main volunteer roles:

Front Desk Volunteers

Location: Shafer, MN - remote work not available

Purpose: The purpose of this position is to be the point person for visitors at Franconia Commons

Qualifications: Personable, able to work independently, flexible, problem-solver, able to complete simple math

Commitment Expected:

  • Volunteers will be expected to work at least four hours a week
  • Volunteers will be expected to work weekends

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Answer visitors’ questions
  • Ring up gift shop sales, take donations, and sell memberships
  • Complete opening and closing tasks for the building: making coffee, opening/closing the register

Training:

  • All volunteers will complete a volunteer orientation before working their first shifts
  • Continued training will be provided as needed
  • Franconia staff will be present onsite during volunteers’ shifts

Event Volunteers

Location: Shafer, MN - remote work not available

Purpose: The purpose of this position is to join Franconia staff and artists in hosting diverse community driven events

Qualifications: Personable, able to work independently, flexible, problem-solver

Commitment Expected:

  • Volunteers will be expected to work the full day of the event

Responsibilities & Duties:
Volunteers will take on various roles depending on the event, examples of the type of role include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Parking Attendant - Collect payment from visitors as they enter the park
  • Information Guides - Greet attendees and provide general information about the event
  • Surveyors - Distribute and collect short surveys from attendees
  • Set-up/Strike Crew - Assist staff and artists with event set-up and breakdown

Training:

  • Volunteers will join Franconia staff for a pre-event meeting where they will be trained on their specific tasks
