Who are we looking for?

People who can speak English, have good knowledge of the language (you don't have to be natives, experts nor professional teachers) and can help us improve the quality of life of youngsters living in remote rural areas of Colombia, by providing weekly English tutoring online sessions to around 2 to 3 students. You can be located anywhere in the world and must be at least 18.

Why?

These youngsters have been very affected by the pandemic; education before was not good, but now they only receive some booklets that they have to fill out and then send back to the school. This is no way of learning a new language, and one can really tell by the low English level among them.

Once these young people graduate from high school, it is very difficult for them to find further education or job opportunities, as they have to compete with people of urban areas, where education is better.

We've seen that once they start learning English, these youngsters' life changes dramatically; they have access to more online resources, and they contribute to improving the conditions of their relatives and friends in their communities.

How?
You don't have to be a professional teacher or have previous teaching experience to help us (although this kind of people is also welcome). On each tutoring session, we work on some online exercises that help the teenagers with their listening, speaking, and grammar skills. These exercises are already very well structured, then you'd mostly need to provide just guidance. There would be anyway, an introductory session with you in which we'd go over all of these aspects again.

Time commitment per week:

We are all volunteers who help with at least 1 English tutoring session of 90 minutes per week, so we'd expect the same from you.

Duration:

We would expect a minimum 3 month commitment on your part. We can, however, talk about it and adjust it to your specific schedule :).

Compensation?

None. All members of the team help on a voluntary basis. We can however, provide any certificate or reference you might need in the future about this experience.

Drop us a message, we'll be glad to speak with you and answer any question you might have,

Ricardo

Mission Statement

Help young people living in remote areas of Colombia have more access to .educational and professional opportunities by tutoring them in English. Once they start learning English, these youngsters start using more online educational resources, are able to find online job opportunities, and contribute to improving the rest of the community they belong to. Colombia has one of the worst levels of English in the world? (77th out of 100 countries measured on the EF Standard English Test). We are committed to helping Latin American countries, such as Colombia, become more competitive. Especially rural populations, which have a poverty index that can reach up to 80%.

Description

We are a group of people who all help voluntarily with English tutoring to youngsters of remote areas in Colombia. We are already a group of almost 30 students and 20 tutors. We are a very diverse team: There are tutors from different parts of the world, of different ages and with different levels of English expertise helping us.
