  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Sports/ Physical Education

Use your athletic skills while interacting with Nepali teachers and students and playing a role in the local community.

Join us for our 3 or 4 week special Volunteer and Tour Nepal program and volunteer in a sports project!

As in intern you will help children become more active in life. You will work together with sports teachers to train and activate school children.

What does a Sports Intern Volunteer do?

This internship is a great way to get practical coaching experience while immersing yourself in the local community. You can be:

  • Teaching soccer, cricket, volleyball and basketball
  • Teaching a new sport, such as field hockey or ultimate frisbee
  • Arranging a Sports Day for the students
  • Running core strength classes
Where and How will I be Teaching Sports?

In Nepal, you will be based at either an elementary or high school where you will teach sports classes to students between the ages of 6 and 18 years old. The number of students in each class varies from about 20 to 45 students. There will be two or three sports classes per day. Usually lasting 45 minutes, which will take place in the school’s yard or on a playing field. The most popular sports in Nepal are soccer, cricket and basketball. Typically, volunteers start off as the teacher’s assistant, with the option to lead the class in some activities. With time, depending on your ability and enthusiasm, you can get a more prominent role.

Do I need any specific skills or qualifications for this placement?

Besides being good in sports in general, no coaching experience is required. All you need is a passion for fitness and a commitment to helping children and teenagers develop their physical ability!

Internship Guidance

As an intern you will get guidance from your local school coordinator and from the Internship Coordinator of Volunteer Society Nepal. She has an M.Sc in International Development and a minor in Education Management. We provide you with all the details needed for your college or university. After your placement we can complete your evaluation forms together.

Mission Statement

Volunteer Society Nepal is founded on a dream. That brave and generous volunteers from across all backgrounds from Nepal and abroad could work together.

Description

At the height of the conflict in Nepal in 2004 we gathered a team of Nepalese development workers. We also invited foreign social activists and foreign volunteers to come and help. Together we combat the shortages in education, healthcare and women’s rights. We believe we can do this quicker and more efficiently than the existing international organizations. Our work has taken on a new dimension following the devastation of the 2015 earthquake. We have since doubled our efforts to sustain and increase our humanitarian projects.
