Homeless Children living in crisis

Project Hawai’i, Inc. is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers and solely supported by public donations. Our mission is to help homeless children succeed and escape their cycle of poverty.
We have a very unique project that needs some basic skilled construction volunteers.
This is an amazing opportunity to work with the community and meet new people, new skills, mentor our youth and build a life changing program. Volunteers will be able to utilize their skills and care to help homeless children succeed.
Be part of this amazing project and donate a few hours of your summer to be the super hero our homeless children need.

1. We purchased a home to turn into a duplex to open it up as a transitional housing project for the homeless families to utilize while they get their lives back on track. This home will be used to offer a support hand up and help stop they cycle of homelessness. The project includes rehab work in the kitchen and bath, window replacement and new construction inside walls to turn half the home to a duplex. No outside/new addition work, all within the original walls.
2. We are working with a professional travel agency that has groups travel to make a difference and build homes or work on reconstruction, etc. We will have a group of young adults to help as volunteers as a team to reach out goals.
3. We need volunteers with construction experience, be able to delegate jobs on site, such as painting, measuring, cutting, replacement / tear down, etc. To head/lead the team. We do have a licensed contractor overseeing the site.
4. Volunteers can commit to the whole project or just join for the weekly projects. The groups of youth will change each Monday and will have a new assignment or continue where the last group left off. So, you as a volunteer can work around your schedule, help once or over a week period, or once a week for the 10 weeks, etc.
5. Of course we would prefer to have volunteers sign up to commit to one week Monday-Thurs and work with that group. The volunteer is to be on site at 9a. lunch with group and then end around 3p
6. This project will work towards educational internship, community service, etc.

If you are interested and have construction experience and would like to head up a group of youth, please connect with us. Our project starts end of May and goes to first week in Aug.

SOME VOLUNTEER DUTIES:

1. Organizing volunteers in the morning and getting them set on their work area/tools, etc.
2. Head or Lead a specific job, such as painting, roofing, tiles, building, framing, stairs, carpet, etc.
3. Cook for our volunteer lunches
4. Write letters to obtain support or materials for our programs. Currently we still need WINDOWS, CARPET, PAINT, DOORS, FLOORING, etc.

Mahalo for your time and consideration towards our project.

Description

Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a nonprofit organization run 100% by volunteers to enhance the lives of children living in poverty situations on the islands of Hawai'i. Our public supported charity works year round to provide necessities to children living in substandard housing situations, such as tents on the waters edge, abandon vehicles, and make-shift structures hidden in the bushes and hills.

Our agency provides children with holiday parties, meals and services for all the major holidays including Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Other monthly services include providing emergency support, hygiene, food, clothing and outreach to the children living in homeless situations on 3 of the islands of Hawai'i, the Big Island (Hawai'i), Mau'i and O'ahu.

Project Hawai'i also provides educational and nutritional programs that include after school reading and tutoring programs and our summer camp activities. Children will also receive full back to school support from new backpacks filled with supplies, new outfits, and shoes. We also provide other educational needs throughout the year.

Project Hawai'i Summer Camp has ran for 15 years and won several dozen awards in nutrition and educational support. This program is our largest endevor and evolves year after to year to include even more learning opportunities to our keiki.
