ORGANIZATION: Friends of MJHS

We are looking for a committed individual to lead our newly developing drumline which serves girls and boys ages 10 to 18. As leader of the drumline, your responsibilities would be as follows -

1. Instruct and rehearse percussion parts to beginners/experienced students.
2. Develop and teach cadences for marching playing at performing and competitive events.
3. Work closely with other drumline instructors around activities and performances.

Extensive percussion experience is required with marching band experience strongly preferred. Paramount to this position is commitment to the young people who are part of the line. Previous experience with teaching percussion is preferred but not required. Must have strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills and be able to work effectively with other line instructors, parents and young people. A sense of humor is critical.

The drumline currently practices on Mondays/Wednesdays at 4pm. The instructor can change this time with the requirement being an online practice once a week for one hour. We anticipate practicing virtually until at least April. When we return to in person practices, we will meet in Midtown Manhattan on Saturdays only - generally from 2pm to 4pm.

Interested candidates are asked to respond to this opportunity or email soulphamm.org@gmail.com with their experience and availability. Current high school students with drumline experience can be considered as Coaching Assistants.
