ORGANIZATION: Sound Learning provides quality, accessible, and innovative education programs for adults and out-of-school youth (16+). Student community members come from a wide range of educational, economic, and cultural backgrounds. We work with trained community volunteers to provide in-person and distance instruction in both Mason and Thurston Counties. Together we provide instruction that addresses the realities of participants’ needs, lives, and goals.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: in collaboration with staff & board and under the supervision of the Director this person will: gather information for the monthly e-newsletter; Create the newsletter on the agency Constant Contact platform, and after final approval, send the newsletter out. They will also work in the same way to create and post content for the agency on social media. Currently Facebook is the primary site, but expansion into other sites in order to reach a wider range of supporters, and potential donors, volunteers, and students is desired.
DESIRED Skills and abilities for these placements: This volunteer should be well-versed in the world of social media and effective ways to craft and design posts in various applications. Strong writing and the use of visuals as well as print is essential. Time and interest in getting to know how Sound Learning works, the communities we serve, and the outcomes achieved is important. The ability to collaborate with the director, staff, and board members is important. Access to reliable internet and cell phone connections at a home-based workspace is required.
BENEFITS: This job provides hands-on experience in creating and delivering outreach materials for a community-based nonprofit organization. You will learn about Adult Education Programs and who they serve. You will make a difference in the lives of others.

Sound Learning provides instruction to adults to improve reading, writing, and math skills; study for a GED;participate in a diploma program; or study English for Speakers of Other Languages. Our low-cost services are provided in Mason and Thurston Counties.
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) helping community members build their self-sufficiency and contribute to their local community through work, family life and education, providing services for 281 adults in Mason and Thurston counties during the 2009-2010 program year with over 10,000 hours of instruction time, thanks to our 185 volunteers and many supporters.
