The Landing is an emergency placement shelter for children who are first entering foster care. We provide children a 'soft place to land' during some of the most difficult days of their lives while Social Workers are hard at work ensuring long term safety for children. Our team is made up primarily of community members who provide direct-care to children in our house. Children between the ages of 0 and 12 spend their first few days in foster care with us, and we spend time with them doing crafts at the kitchen table, walks around the neighborhood and plenty of trips to get a donut (or two!)
We're looking for folks to join our brand new team caring for children, or serving behind the scenes.
Skookum Kids is a non-profit organization founded in 2015 in Bellingham, WA. In the last 6 years, we have seen a great need to expand our programs and are excited to have a second shelter providing care for children in Central & Eastern Washington!
Because we provide direct service to children, we are not able to provide virtual volunteering at this time. We are following all local mandates regarding mask wearing, symptom screening, and sanitation procedures.

Mission Statement
The mission of Skookum Kids is to repair the foster care system by eliminating the pain points that make life unnecessarily difficult for foster parents and social workers. We do that by involving the whole community in the important work of child welfare.
Description
Skookum Kids bring fresh ideas and new energy to a broken system. Foster care has a bad reputation--sometimes deserved--but we see hope and change. We believe the world is full of people who want to help but don't know how, so we've crafted a suite of volunteer opportunities so that everyone can participate in this important work. These volunteer opportunities range from one-time events ideal for large groups to year-long commitments that enable a sustained relationship with a particular child. We take great pride in finding the right way for every person to participate in this revolution.
