Our ESOL (English as a Second Language) Conversation Coach will volunteer under the direction of our inspiring and creative Adult Literacy staff to support immigrant communities with their English language development. Coaches will help students build confidence when speaking, practice grammar, vocabulary and other material introduced by the teacher. Our teachers are experienced in working in a student-centered environment where student collaboration and participation is highly encouraged.
Volunteers will help students:
Use Zoom breakout rooms to help students in a small group setting.
Consult class activity materials provided by the teacher to understand the activities they’ll be helping with.
Consult materials containing pedagogical techniques shared by the MRNY staff team regularly so that they know how to provide corrective feedback and conversation practice to students.
Be responsive to teacher’s emails and communication attempts.
Preferred but not required: Experience teaching English to adult speakers of other languages.
Shifts: Tuesday or Wednesday 8-9:15pm
