Speak Spanish? Help elders with COVID vaccination appointments and errands
Do you speak Spanish? We are currently looking for volunteers who speaks Spanish who are interested in assisting elders with Medical Escorts and other errands. Right now we are recruiting volunteers in hope of assisting Spanish-speaking elders schedule and/or get to COVID vaccination appointments. Many of these elders live alone and do not have the technological skills to navigate online.
This volunteer work is in person, although we are striving to make any errands or other helping contactless whenever possible. Most of our elders live in Boston neighborhoods such as Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill, Roxbury, Dorchester, or Hyde Park.

Volunteers need to have weekday flexibility for Medical Escorts and library runs, but weekend opportunities may exist if there's demand for assistance with scheduling vaccination appointments. Volunteers must be 18+.
FriendshipWorks was founded 35 years ago to help reduce social isolation, enhance the quality of life, and preserve the dignity of older adults in Greater Boston. This work is accomplished by recruiting volunteers of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds who provide friendship, advocacy, education, assistance, and emotional support. FriendshipWorks, formerly MATCH-UP Interfaith Volunteers, recruits and trains caring individuals to assist elders living in the Boston area. FriendshipWorks offers a variety of support services to elders in the Boston area. We make friendship matches between volunteers and elders. Volunteers often provide companionship, read aloud, take walks, or assist someone with errands. In addition to ongoing companionship, FriendshipWorks provides one-time assistance such as volunteer escorts to and from medical appointments and respite for family caregivers.
