During these uncertain times, how can we help?

If you are looking for an easy way to give back, this is the volunteering opportunity for you.
As a result of the pandemic, schools have begun distance-learning. This leaves certain groups of students at a disadvantage if they do not have access to computers or wifi. The Connect Center is creating an open computer lab space for qualifying local students grades 6-12 to access a safe and supervised location to complete their school work. The Connect Lab will be open Monday-Friday 9-12 and 2-5.
We are in need of volunteers to commit to at least one shift per week. This is an extremely easy volunteering opportunity. Your only responsibilities will be to sit in the socially distanced computer lab with the students during the shift and direct them to the bathroom if need be. Additionally, after the shift, we ask that you disinfect each station with the provided equipment.
You are welcome to bring your own work to complete during the shift and can use our wifi and have access to our snacks. Feel free to sign up with a friend.

Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by connecting youth to a better future. We are committed to our mission by providing spaces for dynamic programming. Collaborating with local and national organizations, the Connect Center will host a variety of youth workshops and activities in our various spaces. We will have the ability to host programs that can impact the youth on every level of Maslow’s hierarchy.
The Connect Center for Youth is a community youth center located in Cohoes, NY and established as a 501(c)3 organization in 2012. The concept for the Connect Center was born in the fall of 2009 by Rev. Wendell and Dona Williams, who saw the need for the city youth to have a safe destination to go to after school hours. We work in collaboration with other local organizations, businesses and the school system. With no major donors, the project has been a labor of love over the past eight years and carries no debt. Project build out is currently estimated at 90% completion.
The Connect Center holds a Steam Lab which includes the computer lab, a tech room, a media room, a music studio and performance arts theatre with an art gallery. It will be a unique space where youth can explore and develop skills which are necessary for the present and the future to keep them competitive in a rapidly evolving education and job market. Additionally, we are gearing up to meet the immediate needs of the youth in our city by converting a portion of the Black Box arts theatre into a socially-distant computer lab. This space will also create opportunities for tutoring, mentoring and other tech-based youth programming.
We'll work with your schedule.
