Learn more about Story Tapestries’ open Board positions and how you can contribute to building a better tomorrow for our community and our children.

Since 2010, Story Tapestries has reached nearly 1 million individuals through free and low-cost performances, workshops, in-school and out-of-school residencies and professional development programs. We collaborate with like-minded organizations to increase access and equity in educational and community settings for youth, in particular for those facing challenges that limit their access to artistic and cultural experiences such as housing insecurity and insufficient household income. The arts are a unique tool in that the arts facilitate human connection and remove barriers to communication. We don't have to use words from the same language to express our ideas through images, rhythms or melodies and be understood. Story Tapestries harnesses the power of the arts to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth across the Greater Washington Region and beyond, creating a platform for the voices of youth, and the adults who support them, to be heard.

Contact executive@storytapestries.org to express your interest, or give us a call at 301-916-6328 and speak with Steve or Arianna.

Mission Statement

Story Tapestries (ST) is an arts service organization that serves the Greater Washington Region and beyond through: 1) Performances in storytelling, theater, dance, spoken word and other art forms in a variety of public spaces; and 2) Workshops and in-depth training programs for adults and children to develop skills in various art forms, cultivating how to use the performing, visual, and literary arts to develop their voice, share their stories and increase their literacy, social-emotional and STEAM skills.

Description

Since becoming a 501c3 in 2010, ST has reached nearly 1 million individuals by collaborating with over 1,300 organizations. ST presents programs using a team of 30 professional artists, who are also master educators, in venues across the DMV region. Our motto "Empower. Educate. Engage." guides ST to create collaborative arts programs that cater to communities’ needs through free or affordable performing arts events and workshops. With support from individual donors, foundations and government entities, ST collaborates with local arts and humanities organizations and other nonprofit partners to design sustainable programs to:
