We are looking for a male volunteer to mentor a 19-year-old refugee youth from Guinea. He has been in Bethany's refugee foster care program since March of 2018. He is currently residing in an apartment with a friend. He can come off as very assertive at times. He could benefit from someone that can help him learn independence so that he does not rely mainly on staff. Currently he’s not in school as he failed to attend and was discharged. He can re-enroll in March for the 3rd trimester, which he says he plans to do so. He reports to be working however, he has not provided verification. This youth can be very strong-willed and accomplishes things if they interest him. He states that he likes discovering things and going out to places that he hasn’t visited before.

Mission Statement

Bethany demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by protecting children, empowering youth, and strengthening families through quality social services.

Description

For refugees fleeing danger, the search for safety can be extremely challenging. And too often, people become numbers in a system that can feel impossible to navigate. That’s why we guide, protect, advocate for, and support refugees. In the U.S., we offer resettlement and continued support services in strategic locations.

Bethany Christian Services' Refugee and Immigrant Services program encompasses adult and family resettlement as well as refugee foster care for Unaccompanied Children and Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. Our services for unaccompanied refugee youth include case management, counseling, housing (foster homes, group homes, independent living), classes (New Arrival, Life Skills, driver's training), and volunteer mentoring and tutoring.
