Do you want to help but don"t know how during COVID-19? You could train to be a hospice volunteer now and when things are safe, you'll be ready to start! We have many ways in which you can help! Reach out to us to learn more!
Volunteers are an important part of our hospice team, filling roles that include direct contact with patients and clerical support. Medicare requires the utilization of volunteers alongside paid clinical and administrative staff. Hospice volunteers describe their work as gratifying, intellectually stimulating, and emotionally meaningful. We value our volunteers greatly.
Support for patients. This can include visiting, reading, taking walks, writing letters, interpreting for those who do not speak English, bringing in music, and supervising therapeutic visits with pets.
Respite and support for family members . Volunteers can assist with shopping or light household maintenance, or allow family caregivers the opportunity to take care of necessary errands, exercise, or simply have some time alone. Volunteers can also help care for a family pet.
Bereavement support programs. Hospice volunteers can work closely with our bereavement staff. Duties may include assisting a support group facilitator, serving refreshments, or helping with mailings to families.
Special skills and interests. Notaries, barbers and beauticians often volunteer their services to patients.

Enriching the lives of those we serve with compassion, respect, excellence and integrity.
The philosophy at Brookdale Hospice is that life is much more than physical health; it also includes the health of the human spirit. When physical health begins to fail, the nurturing of the spirit becomes critical for maintaining the dignity of the individual.
