Calling all volunteers. Have a passion for non-profits, healthcare and/or diseases and want to do something good? The Arizona Chapter of the National Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) aims to improve the lives of the thousands of Arizona families who are impacted by Huntington's Disease. HD is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure.

We are looking for Event Coordinators, planning committee members and on-site volunteers for the following annual fundraisers:

HDSA Team Hope Walk: November 2021, Location: TBA
Celebration of Hope Gala: August 2021, Location: TBA

Team Hope Walk Committee - Volunteers will work alongside the HDSA Arizona Board of Directors to plan our annual Team Hope Walk, HDSA’s signature grassroots fundraising campaign. Since their inception in 2007, Team Hope Walks have been held in over 100 different cities across the country and have raised over $9 million for HDSA. Volunteers on this committee will be help engage corporate sponsors, recruit new participants, host wraparound events, event promotions, in-kind donations and volunteer recruitment.

Gala Committee - Volunteers will work alongside the HDSA Arizona Board of Directors to plan our annual Celebration of Hope Gala, our largest fundraising event of the year. We are looking for creative volunteers who can help us come up with innovative ways to engage new sponsors, increase our attendance, find in-kind donations for auction and build an event theme that will keep attendees entertained.

*We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and will do everything we can to ensure the safety of our volunteers and attendees. Should an in-person event not be possible, the events will switch to virtual formats.

Description

Huntington’s disease (also called HD) is a fatal genetic brain disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years (30 to 50 years) and unfortunately there is no cure. HD is a family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the faulty gene.

Through seven HDSA regions with 50 volunteer-based chapters and affiliates, 200+ support groups, we reach out across the nation to offer HD patients and their family’s guidance, encouragement, resource information and leadership opportunities. There are HDSA events, meetings, and seminars, as well as HDSA advocacy programs -- truly a place to care, share while we all work toward a cure.
