Position: Strategic Marketing and Communications Director (Volunteer)

The Strategic Marketing and Communications Director is a key contributor to the development and implementation of Good Life Refuge’s mission critical campaigns that build awareness, influence public opinion and behavior on critical issues, and support programs that maximize lifesaving.

The Strategic Marketing and Communications Director is a self-motivated and detail-oriented critical thinker as well as a skilled project manager who can direct themselves and others. They are mission-focused and results-driven, a natural collaborator, a self-starter, and an exceptional communicator with an ability to interact with diverse audiences and work successfully in high-pressure environments. And of course, they love animals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a communications strategy to drive engagement and public opinion on key issues critical to Good Life Refuge.
  • Develop and execute earned media plans that advance mission critical issues and topics.
  • Develop and cultivate strategic relationships with reporters and other multicultural media contacts
  • Create and execute public relations tactics for a multicultural audience that will help build awareness of Good Life Refuge’s lifesaving work and thought leadership. Write and develop unique press releases, pitches, Op-eds, fact sheets, bios, media briefings, while managing messaging strategies and distributions.
  • Conduct research to identify key influencers and audiences, and the messaging that resonates with them. Steward influencer relationships forward.
  • Work with digital team and agency partners on campaigns and projects including, associated digital ad campaigns, microsite development, website updates, email marketing, social media platform management, among others.
  • Track effectiveness of campaign and program efforts, provides analysis and makes recommendations for improvement of future marketing efforts as needed.

Skills and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in strategic communications, digital marketing, and media relations. Experience in marketing and communications for the nonprofit sector preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong storyteller with a keen eye for content.
  • Demonstrated experience in digital platforms, multicultural marketing, grassroots advocacy, social media, and public relations.
  • Must have proficiency with a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, research, and presentation software (Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).

Animals that are considered non-adoptable will take residency at the sanctuary and for adoptable animals we will find excellent homes. We are also dedicated to inspire others to a more balanced and compassionate lifestyle by outreach and advocacy.
