ORGANIZATION: Communities In Schools of Nevada

  • Spots available: 0

We are looking for volunteers to help virtually tutor high school students from Desert Pines High School in both Math and Science.

Prior to volunteering, we ask for volunteers to complete two different types of backgrounds; 1. Communities In Schools of Nevada will conduct background check at no cost. 2. Complete fingerprinting with Clark County School District that will cost $55. The volunteer is responsible for paying for the fingerprinting fee. The fingerprinting fee will allow the volunteer to receive a badge and is valid for a full year.

If you are interested in tutoring, a virtual meeting introduction will take place to review all items needed to be completed and review expectations.

Thank you.

About Communities In Schools of Nevada

Location:

2080 E. Flamingo Rd., Ste. 219, Las Vegas, NV 89119, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life, and our motto is "whatever it takes, we graduate."

Description

CIS was established based on the belief that relationships, not programs, change children. In his decades of experience working with historically underserved youth, CIS Founder, Bill Milliken, determined that children and youth's most important basic need is a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult.

Since our founding in 2004, Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS of Nevada) has provided Integrated Student Supports (ISS) to students throughout Nevada. ISS is an evidence-based, success-proven methodology for providing students with wraparound services and resources in Title I and high-need K-12 public schools to improve academic performance and meet students’

and families’ social-emotional and basic needs. Our wraparound services may include social-emotional learning opportunities, hunger prevention, physical and mental health services, before and after-school tutoring, and college and career readiness programs.

CIS of Nevada is the fifth-largest state office, with three affiliates serving students in Clark, Washoe, Elko, and Humboldt Counties.
