Downtown Streets Team is an organization that is committed to ending homelessness through the dignity of work. Our Team Members are community members who are experiencing or at risk for homelessness. Every day, our Team provides essential beautification and street cleaning services in Redwood City.
In Redwood City, we have a large number of Spanish-speaking Team Members. Language barriers can be difficult in both the daily interactions between Team Members, as well as in the long term search for employment and belonging in the community. We are hoping to create pathways for our Team to become more bilingual, both by having English speakers learn Spanish and Spanish speakers learn English.
We are looking for someone with ESL experience and, preferably, teaching experience, to help build up our Team's English skills. Ideally, you would teach an hour-long ESL workshop at least once a week on an ongoing basis. Please reach out to sarah@streetsteam.org with any questions.
Classes may be held virtually or in-person (outdoors, masked, and socially-distanced) depending on your location and comfort level.

Mission Statement
Downtown Streets Team's mission is to build Teams that restore dignity, inspire hope, and provide a pathway to recover from homelessness. Team Members volunteer their time to help beautify their community, and in exchange for their work they receive employment specialist and case management services to help them meet their goals, as well as a non-cash stipend to help them cover basic needs as they get back on their feet. We believe that the dignity our Teams provide is a powerful tool to motivate Team Members to be a part of their own solution. In the words of one of our Team Members, DST is a win-win-win situation: it's a win for the Team Member, a win for the community, and a win for the environment. Come join us in breaking down barriers and ending homelessness one day at a time!
