Girls on the Run Delaware

Girls on the Run Delaware is looking for coaches across the state of Delaware in New Castle, Kent & Sussex counties for our Spring 2021 Season!

Lace up your sneakers and inspire a group of girls to be strong, confident, and healthy! Girls on the Run is a youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade that creatively integrates running. Volunteer coaches are trained to facilitate our easy-to-follow curriculum with small groups of girls twice a week over the course of 8 weeks.

You don't need to be a runner or a competitive athlete to coach! Successful coaches serve as role models for girls by showing up prepared and on time, by listening attentively, and by demonstrating a positive attitude! Coaches are required to commit to 4 hours per week for the 8-week season, with additional time required for Coach Training and the End of Season Celebration. Practice schedules will vary based on team. GOTR’s Spring 2021 Season starts the week of March 29th and runs for eight weeks.

This season we will have teams across the state at schools and community sites, such as county parks, Boys & Girls Clubs, churches, HOA's and community centers - so we can certainly find a location that works for you to volunteer!

Through safety and physical distancing modifications to creating trauma sensitive spaces, our team is ready to bring critical social-emotional programming to girls in 3rd-8th grade, at a time when they need it the most.

Physical isolation and related stressors of the COVID-19 pandemic have undoubtedly affected our children. Should our community experience additional closures, whether unexpected or planned, we are able to quickly shift our in-person program to virtual practices. Coaches will be provided with specific resources, training and support to prepare them to seamlessly deliver the program virtually. Alternate activities are available if a girl cannot make it to an online practice, however attendance on an ongoing weekly basis is required.

Learn more about volunteering with us by signing up for one of our zoom information sessions at https://www.raceplanner.com/volunteer/signup/info-meetings or by emailing melissarice@girlsontherunde.org.

Mission Statement

At Girls on the Run we inspire ALL girls to build confidence and make intentional decisions, while fostering care and compassion for self and others. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. Our Girls on the Run core values include: Recognize our power and responsibility to be intentional in our decision making; Embrace our differences and find strength in our connectedness; Express joy, optimism and gratitude through our words, thoughts and actions; Nurture our physical, emotional and spiritual health; Lead with an open heart and assume positive intent; Stand up for ourselves and others.

Description

Girls face social pressures and conflicting messages about how they should act and who they should be. Studies show that by adolescence, girls' confidence drops about twice as much as boys'. Stressors related to COVID-19 have undoubtedly affected girls, between social isolation, anxiety and more limited opportunities for physical activity.

Girls need us now more than ever.

We believe that EVERY GIRL is inherently FULL OF POWERand POTENTIAL. By knowing they are the leaders of their lives, these are the girls who WILL CHANGE THE WORLD.

The 3rd-5th grade program, Girls on the Run, encourages girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. Our tested curriculum blends physical activity with skill development that enables girls to adapt to whatever comes their way.

Heart & Sole is Girls on the Run's middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade. The program considers the whole girl - body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection. Girls need an inclusive place where they feel supported and inspired to explore their emotions, cultivate empathy and strengthen their physical and emotional health.
