Community Outreach Volunteer for Party for PYD Silent Auction (online)

Partners for Youth with Disabilities (PYD) empowers youth with disabilities to reach their full potential by providing transformative mentoring programs, youth development opportunities, and inclusion expertise. We motivate youth to reach their personal, educational, and career goals and guide organizations in becoming more inclusive. We envision an inclusive global society in which youth with disabilities have the access, support, and confidence to achieve their full potential. We believe that youth with disabilities who are educated, mentored, and empowered have a profoundly positive impact on their communities and the world.

Description

Unpaid volunteers, average 1-2 hours per week, until early May

Partners for Youth with Disabilities is seeking a community outreach volunteer to secure silent auction items for our (virtual) Annual Gala Party for PYD on May 13. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to enhance their development/fundraising skills or just interested in volunteering for a local organization and making a difference in the lives of young people with disabilities.

How You’ll Make An Impact

Your community outreach skills will play a key role in securing silent auction items for our online auction. The revenue raised provides critical funds for PYD programming and funds and increasing awareness of the power of mentoring and inclusion. PYD’s goals for funds raised at Party for PYD 2021 include:

  • Reach 500+ youth and increase the number of volunteers from 650 to 750.
  • Continue to bridge the employment gap of young people with disabilities through jobs with corporate partners. Labor force participation for Americans with disabilities is 19.1% vs. 65.9% for individuals without disabilities.
  • Strategically position PYD for future growth on a national scale to impact thousands more young people with disabilities.

What You Will Do

  • Reach out to personal contacts at local businesses/companies for donations for silent auction (in person, via email or phone). We are looking for a range of items valued from $10 to $1000s (Note: letters and script will be provided with information on Party for PYD)
  • Brainstorm with committee to identify prospects and reach out to businesses to solicit auction items
  • Record information in shared Google sheet
  • Attend monthly one hour auction committee meetings (3-4 total) with updates on items secured and prospects

Your skills

  • Willingness to reach out to businesses, organizations, and individuals to solicit donations
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment

Why Volunteer With Us?

PYD's goal is to create a world where young people with disabilities will be able to live with dignity and pride in who they are, and to lead self-determined lives filled with purpose. To make this happen, we build the skills and abilities of young people with disabilities, and increase the inclusivity of workplaces, organizations, and communities.

Volunteering with us will help provide you with an opportunity to have a profound impact on the lives of young people with disabilities, empowering them to reach their full potential.

Diversity & Inclusion

We encourage people with disabilities, BIPOC (black and/or indigenous people and people of color), multi-lingual speakers, people of any religion or ethnicity, and ASL speakers, of all gender identities and socio-economic backgrounds to apply.
