Mission Statement

Uponyaji is a peer-based run organization aiming to provide mental health resources and spread mental wellness within the black community. Through educational workshops, events, webinars, and advocacy.

Description

Uponyaji started in April of 2020. We are a fairly new organization looking to provide our experiences and expertise to a population that needs it the most. So far. Everyone who is involved with our organization has lived experience with mental health and is of African descent. Currently, the board consists of Certified Peer Specialists and people with lived experiences. So far, we have hosted virtual and in-person events surrounding culture and mental health. We believe in advocating for people who may not know how to advocate for themselves. We used our network and experience to create a bridge between the community and the resources they may need using the 8 dimensions of wellness.

Uponyaji's vision is to educate the African Diaspora by providing unique and cultural appropriation ways of healing. We strive to promote mental wellness to people of the African diaspora covering all 8 dimensions of health and wellness.
