National Volunteer Week 2021 Is Here!
Celebrate with us as we highlight #ArtAsActivism!
We are searching for people who can think outside the box to help us devise a strategic plan for moving forward in this uncertain time. Our resources are small-no staff, 2 dancers and the artistic/executive director.
Perceptual Motion, Inc. is a small non-profit, professional modern dance company with dancers aged 23-72. Its mission is to engage dancers of mixed generations to create inspiring and meaningful dance experiences that open awareness, challenge perceptions and create community.
The company gives concert performances, has classes for elders and works with children in schools. It has been hard hit by Covd-19, with all performances and events cancelled indefinitely.
Realistically we know we won't be able to have live indoor performances for at least another year. We have moved as many classes onto zoom as possible and are searching for new ways we can grow the organization and fulfill our mission.4057 N Damen Ave., Unit 1, CHICAGO, IL 60618, US
Perceptual Motion, Inc.'s mission is to engage dancers of mixed generations to create inspiring and meaningful dance experiences that open awareness, challenge perceptions and create community.
Perceptual Motion is known for intriguing choreography and skilled dancing. The company was born out of the belief that people of all ages and backgrounds can be touched and empowered by dance. Perceptual Motion's programming explores and celebrates the powerful impact of dance and its true purpose: to communicate, express and celebrate life.
Programs include dance concerts for the general public as well as dance residencies, workshops & performances for children and wellness programs for elders at Weiss Hospital, through the Mather Foundation and at the Breakers Retirement Apartments. Its programs create bridges between generations, ideas and levels of dance understanding. In all its endeavors it promotes dance/the arts as an integral part of life.
The company is composed of professional dancers who range in age from 25 to 71.
"Shook's small company is clearly flush with ideas and innovation..." Sid Smith, dance critic, Chicago Tribune, SeeChicagoDance.com
The National Center for Creative Aging honored Perceptual Motion Inc as one of six organizations nationwide to be named Selected Best Practices in Dance for Older People.
