Do you know Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as how to use the Internet and email? If you do, how would you like to use these skills to teach some deserving women who are anxious to learn? The rewards far outweigh the effort and time commitment!
The students of The Ladder Alliance are women who may be victims of domestic violence, unemployed, homeless or experiencing severe poverty. These ladies need basic computer skills to help them get back on their feet.
You will be teaching a class of 6 - 10 women the basics of these software programs as well as an introduction to keyboarding.
Instructors are asked to volunteer two evenings a week from 6:30 - 8:30 for the full course which is 15 weeks, or two and a half hours a day, from 9 - 11:30 am or 12:30 - 3:00pm Monday through Thursday for 8 weeks. We are currently offering classes in person using CDC guidelines and working on having more virtual opportunities available.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
About The Ladder Alliance
1100 Hemphill, Suite 302, Fort Worth, TX 76104, US
The mission of The Ladder Alliance is to provide women victims of domestic violence or low income women with the tools to lead self-reliant, independent and successful lives.
The Ladder Alliance teaches marketable job skills to help our clients become self-reliant and independent.
The computer skills program teaches our clients how to use a computer, a skill required for most jobs in today's technological work place. The skills they learn are how to type, the basics of Microsoft Word and Excel, how to use the Internet, and email.
The computer skills curriculum is broken into modules with the following lengths for each module: typing - 6 weeks, Internet/email and Word - 12 weeks and Excel - 8 weeks. Students receive a certificate of completion after each module.
While teaching skills, we seek to rebuild student's self-esteem and self-confidence through our "Best I Can Be" program. We start each class with a motivational segment and help students transition from an attitude of "I can't" to an attitude of "I know I can!"
In order to assist students with barriers to attendance, we provide childcare and dinner for all students and their children at no cost during the evening classes.
