Mission Statement
- to advance the intellectual and social conditions of teens through quality programs, and to equip participants to envision future possibilities, increase academic performance and empower them for success
Description
Youth that we serve are Middle and High School aged students mostly from Cobb County, however, we have students from Fulton, Douglas, Paulding and Gwinnett as well. Our activities include a Monthly Leadership Session, held on a Sunday afternoon from 3-5 in August-October and January - March. We also sponsor a Leadership Retreat in November, which is a weekend away where we facilitate Empowerment Workshops. Last year our Leadership Retreat was in Opelika Alabama. The previous year the Girls Retreat was held in Chattanooga, Tennessee and the Boys Retreat was held at Lake Lanier. We sponsor a Senior Citizens Christmas Party at the Galleria Manor Senior Apartments in Smyrna and we sponsor Toys4Tots. We collaborate with a few other neighbor groups by volunteering at the Austell Community Back to School Jam and the Powder Springs Back to School Bash. At all of our events, we offer our youth an opportunity to earn Community Service hours. During Spring Break, we travel around the state of Georgia and Alabama for a 4 day College Road Trip. We celebrate our High School Graduates with a Graduation Party in early June.
In addition, we separate our High School Seniors into a group and work with them on Essay Writing, Studying for the SAT/ACT, completing the FAFSA and during our monthly sessions, we assist them with Scholarship Searches and Submissions and Applying to College.
