SLO Symphony is looking for a Social Media Intern that will work alongside the Communications Manager to boost our online presence. We are looking for enthusiastic media creators, and/or graphic designers who are looking to gain production and volunteer experience. Students and non-students are encouraged to apply! This is an unpaid, volunteer position that will mostly be working remotely. The candidate must be willing to work at least 6-8 hours per week. This opportunity is mostly virtual but may require some socially distanced opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Create compelling content for posting on social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and occasionally Twitter). This includes written content, graphics, and short videos.
  • Assist in creating a social media calendar in coordination with Marketing & Communications activities.
  • Engage with followers, stay on top of social media trends, and pitch ideas to increase engagement.
  • Building an asset library - Sourcing images and videos (stock, royalty-free, and original) for use in future social media campaigns, and creating a digital file system to keep them organized and easy to find.
  • Other duties - light manual labor, including set up and take down of drive-in concert equipment

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Candidates should be familiar with social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter
  • Have outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines and detail oriented.
  • Familiarity with Canva or basic graphic design knowledge. Adobe Suite is a plus
  • Ability to work independently as well with others on projects, while juggling multiple tasks.
  • Ability to do research new ways to increase engagement, new trends, and new campaign ideas

Since SLO Symphony was incorporated in 1961 it has grown significantly to become a leading arts institution in the community with 70 orchestra members. SLO Symphony produces 9 concerts and events per year in San Luis Obispo County and educates local youth through a Youth Symphony program with six ensembles and music education programs such as a Music Van that visits local schools and a Musical Petting Zoo that attends community events. The Symphony music education programs have touched more than 16,000 youth per year in its 60-year tenure.
