Next month, we are opening the Tiny House Empowerment Village, the first village of tiny houses for homeless youth in the U.S.! With just a few weeks left until our Village opens, we've reached a really exciting and important time! These next several builds will be crucial for making the progress we need.
We are in need of volunteers to come help out at our volunteer builds, which are held every Saturday and Sunday at our Village site at 633 Hegenberger Road in Oakland from 9:30 am till 4:00 pm. We provide lunch, water, and snacks. We ask that all volunteers come wearing a mask (there's lots of space to social distance) and sign our volunteer waiver and sign-in sheet (by the snack table) upon arrival. Each build day can involve a variety of projects for both skilled and unskilled volunteers - for example, this weekend, volunteers will be working on painting and caulking houses, building walkways, and more.
We are committed to building as safely and carefully as possible. It's our top priority to keep our community of volunteers safe from the virus, and for our builds to pose as little risk as possible for those who choose to show up. To this end, we intend to continue diligently observing social distancing guidelines, limiting the number of volunteers in small spaces at our builds, and serving individually packaged lunches. Thus far, we have heard of zero build volunteers testing positive for COVID. We also recognize that opening the Village as soon as we are able to safely do means providing housing and shelter to some of the most vulnerable populations adversely affected by the virus. We are beyond grateful for everyone who continues to show up to make a difference in our community despite the mounting challenges the pandemic poses.
No additional volunteer opportunities at this time.
