Three Texas positions open for foster coordinators one for Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Position role includes but is not limited to the following:
Recruit, review foster applications, and interview/screen potential new fosters. Provide necessary training and support for the fosters so that they can perform their foster duties to the best of their abilities. Develop and maintain a relationship with fosters. Be main contact for fosters.
Manage placement for dogs. Coordinate transportation from shelters to foster homes and help transport dogs to fosters as needed. Support fosters with the adoption process of foster dogs including updating bios and pictures if dogs go longer than two weeks without applications. Support fosters in preparing dogs for transport to the PNW as needed.
Maintain the foster spreadsheet with all foster information and their foster dogs. Keep all proper paperwork for foster dogs and ensure it is scanned for RG before the dog leaves Texas or at time of adoption.
Track monthly medical needs including heart worm preventative & flea and tick treatment keeping dogs up to date. Schedule vet appointments for fosters for vaccinations/health certificates as needed. Address medical issues with the medical director in a timely manner. Keep necessary supplies needed for fosters and their dogs.
Assist and encourage TX fosters to connect and communicate with PNW fosters to provide continuity of care when dogs are transported from TX to the PNW.
Be a model for all volunteers by agreeing to uphold the rescue’s mission, vision, and values. Encourage others to maintain a working environment of collaboration, positivity, and kindness. Practice regular self-care.
Time investment per week will vary with busier weeks during peak times (transport, intake, etc.)

Purpose Great Pyrs & Paws Rescue is a 501c3 organization with a network of volunteers across the United States. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted, displaced, and neglected Great Pyrenees along with other Livestock Guardian dogs that are abandoned in high kill shelters throughout Texas. By placing them in caring and nurturing foster homes we are able to successfully adopt them to loving homes throughout the Western United states. Our mission is to engage community members to promote better treatment of these dogs and reduce euthanasia numbers through adoptions, education, and other resources. Vision: GPPR is at the forefront of generating awareness concerning the mistreatment and over-population of Livestock Guardian Breeds.
Description
Formed in April 2020 with support from National Great Pyrenees Rescue we received our 501c3 May 2020. With a start up volunteer base of approximately 70 individuals across the United States we've successfully adopted 100 Great Pyrenees and Pyr mixes to adopters across multiple states...and we've just got started! Our rescue focuses on finding forever homes for the Pyrs in Texas and in the Pacific Northwestern states, by placing them with fosters and adopters in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico and California. The Great Pyrenees is one of the oldest livestock guardian dog breeds, and for hundreds of years they have been bred to think independently. True gentle giants Great Pyrenees are intuitive, independent thinkers and formidable protectors and companions who may seem almost human at times!
