2021 Special Olympics Louisiana State Softball Tournament

This year's State Softball Tournament will be held at Pelican Park in Carencro, LA. This one-day state-level competition will be open to teams of multiple skill levels from across the state. Along with the help we need for the softball and horseshoe event, we will also be conducting performance stations. The details for the performance station are below.

  • Competition Readiness
    • Read through checklist ensuring athletes understand and have checked off items. If some don’t apply, no worries!
    • Send athletes to next station, nutrition!

  • Nutrition
    • Volunteer reads through chart with athlete(s)
    • Volunteers hands athlete(s) plate and offers fruit/vegetables
    • Volunteers offers snack
    • Volunteers are reiterating benefits of these foods

  • Hydration- (Needs chart, waters, infusion packets)
    • Volunteer reads through chart with athlete(s)
    • Volunteer hands athletes water bottle
    • Volunteer offers choices of infusions and squirts into water bottle
    • Volunteer shakes and mixes for athlete(s)
    • Volunteer reiterates benefits of water and how often to drink
  • Physical Activity
    • Stretch first!
    • Explain how activities can relate to their sport (flag football)
    • Volunteers do activities with athletes
    • Volunteers then teach athletes what they can do at their house to stay fit using these exercises

  • Pledge Wall
    • Volunteer asks athlete to make pledge/goal related to fitness, sports, or hydration/nutrition
    • Volunteer offers pen/marker for athlete to document on slip
    • Volunteer documents what pledge was and who it was by
    • Volunteer takes athlete to banner for athlete to tape pledge to wall
    • Volunteer takes pic

  • Gameday Minds
    • Volunteer encourages and asks athlete about something they would focus on today.
    • Volunteer asks athlete to picture successfully completing that reminder
      • Examples: the field of play, the expressions on teammate’s faces, the bounce of the tennis ball, the placement of the bowling pins
      • Examples: the way your body feels when you strike the soccer ball, the feel of the bocce ball in your hand, or the emotions you feel when the shot goes in
      • Examples: Cheers from fans, teammates, a coach, the sound of a ball being kicked, the sound ball going through the net
      • See it: What would you see or want to see?
      • Feel it: What would it feel like?
      • Hear it: What sounds would you hear?
Volunteers asks athlete to finish the station with one positive message using self-talk. A statement that will encourage them to commit to their performance reminder and try their best.
