ORGANIZATION: Enhabit Health- Hospice of Albertville

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Thank you for considering volunteering with Encompass Health - Hospice, formerly Alacare! There are many opportunities for our direct patient volunteers to serve hospice patients in Marshall County.

Companionship volunteers are trained to go into a hospice patient’s home and provide non-medical support through socialization and companionship. Activities may include reading to patients, listening to music, playing cards, running errands, painting nails, or talking about interests! The volunteer coordinator will mentor this volunteer until comfortable and confident to be independent.

Caregiver relief or respite volunteers make visits in order allow a caregiver the opportunity to leave the home for a couple hours. This gives caregivers a small break and the opportunity to run errands. Respite volunteers do not provide medical care or "hands on" care to patients; they are only there to keep a patient company during the absence of their caregiver.

Visiting/ Volunteers also can make deliveries for birthdays, special occasions, holidays, and help with small household tasks

Spiritual care volunteers meet with patient and family to provide spiritual care. Volunteers are matched to patients of the same faith and spiritual background. Volunteers are welcomed to sing hymns, do devotions, or spiritual readings, and provide prayer, etc. if the patient wishes. You will receive additional training and guidance by the Encompass chaplain.

Direct Patient Support Volunteers must complete the application and orientation processes, which in include background screenings, 2 step TB skin test, drug screen, a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Volunteers must have their own reliable transportation.

Jr. volunteers ages 14-18 may volunteer as long as they are accompanied and supervised by an adult volunteer. Volunteer commitment is ongoing, and flexible to volunteer’s schedule. We provide a free training for all of our volunteers.

Please contact me if you think you would be interested in volunteering.

I look forward to hearing from you today!
