We are looking for someone who has the drive, determination, commitment, and organizational skills to co-lead our website team, maintain our website, utilize team members effectively, and make necessary updates to our website.

BxB Central does the behind the scenes for marketing, fundraising, software engineering, and website design. The website team is the brains behind our entire website from the overall framework design to the small operational details. The entirety of our website is built from scratch, and working on it gives real experience in website development. Like all the other teams in BxB Central, the team is small, but also extremely effective. There are currently around 5 team members, but that number fluctuates depending on where volunteers are needed most urgently.

Website Team Responsibilities
  • Maintain and improve our central website
    • Update information on the website
    • Fix bugs or problems
  • Build new web pages or redesign current ones
  • Find new ways to improve reach and engagement through design and high quality content

We do require previous leadership experience, whether that be within your school club or your local church group. It does not have to be very formal or rigorous leadership, but we want to know that you have the ability to organize and communicate with others, delegate tasks, and work towards a larger goal.

As a website team co-lead, you should be fluent in HTML and CSS, have a foundation in JavaScript, and have built your own websites. You will be expected to maintain and improve our static website built using Jekyll, SASS, and JavaScript (with jQuery). You should also know how to operate GitHub to make updates on our website and UXPin so that you can wireframe new web pages.

We will be asking for a reference on the application, but this reference does not need to be too formal. We understand with current circumstances and also by nature of age, not everyone will have previous work experience and we do not want that to stop anyone from applying. The reference can be a teacher, mentor, or anybody else who you believe will be able to speak to your abilities as a team player and leader along with providing insight into your organizational skills and work ethic.

As an organization, we want to help you grow by giving you the tools needed to learn more about skills ranging from leadership to website design. Thus, we want to make sure you believe that the co-lead position is one that you will be dedicated to and also enjoy. If you are not sure of your commitment in co-leading our website team, we would love for you to apply for a standard position in the team or any other team you may be interested in!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to diversify the community of ponderers and creators by equipping the next generation with the tools of technology, thinking, and leadership to improve the world, bit by bit.

Description

We strive for low-cost programs to teach and encourage students, especially girls and other underrepresented youths in the STEM community, to code, to examine the world, and to lead. We currently offer three programs: Hello World, Form and Function, and Uncommon Sense. Hello World is a summer camp aimed at teaching middle school girls the inner workings of websites. Form and Function is a free after-school program empowering middle schoolers with the tools web development. Uncommon Sense allows high schoolers to examine the world critically and see things with a skeptical eye. For our paid programs, we ensure that scholarships are readily available to ensure all can enjoy our programs. In addition to sharing the gift of code and knowledge, we train student volunteers through hands-on learning to adopt the responsibility, initiative, and dedication critical to strong leadership. We started as a summer camp to teach middle school girls how to code, and the following year, we expanded to clubs for middle schools and high schools. In 2020, we also incorporated critical thinking as one of our services.
