Arts of Life North Shore
Arts of Life (AofL) advances the creative arts by providing artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities a collective space to expand their practice and strengthen their leadership. Founded in 2000, Arts of Life is guided by a progressive vision to put inclusivity and creativity first in support of our artists. The defining hallmark of AofL is our dedication to a culture of collective decision-making, which ensures that we are all proactive members of a shared artistic community with a voice in every aspect of our studio programming.
Arts of Life currently serves over 60 artists at two studio locations. Our North Shore studio is located in the Chicago suburb of Glenview and our Chicago studio is located in the West Town neighborhood. Each studio has a unique exhibition space - Circle Contemporary - with year-round programming featuring guest curators and artists. In addition, each studio has an independent band that practices and performs around Chicagoland.
We seek vocal, energetic, committed individuals who are eager to be involved and to make a difference in the world. Priority skillsets include Human Resources, Legal, Finance/Financial Management, Strategy, and Management Consulting.
Our board members are experts in their fields. All find themselves committed to the respect and dignity AofL accords our artists. We are committed to diversity and want our board to reflect our community of artists so we welcome candidates from all spectrums.
Quite simply, joining us in supporting our incredible artists will open your eyes in ways you do not expect, will likely change how you view people with disabilities, and may even change your life. AofL belongs to the artists and your support will make an important, visible, and lasting impact for people who truly need your help and who will be happy to keep creating astounding art.
Board members convene quarterly as a whole and monthly on the committee level. Current committees are Governance, Finance, Art, and Development. In addition, board members are expected to actively participate in events, exhibitions, and fundraisers throughout the year.
