Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park is looking for local volunteers for a new park docent position. Start your day with a boat ride to the offshore island, accompanied by a park ranger, where you will give interpretive talks to visitors throughout the day. Talks will focus on the history of the island, highlighting the Matheson House: a two-story historic home built in 1919 by William J. Matheson.
Preferred Skills:
Good verbal communication skills
Enthusiastic and friendly
Able to work outside in the Florida heat
Ability to climb stairs multiple times per shift
Knowledge of safe boat operations is a plus

Our volunteers help Florida State Parks achieve its goal to provide resource-based recreation, while preserving, interpreting, and restoring natural and cultural resources. Our volunteers at the Islamorada Area State Parks play an integral part in maintaining our parks and helping us give the best experiences to our visitors.
The Islamorada Area State Parks encompasses four Florida State Parks and over 10,000 acres of protected lands. Our parks include Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park, Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park, Indian Key Historic State Park, and San Pedro Underwater Archaeological Preserve State Park. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities including guided tour or program leader, park maintenance assistant, ranger station attendant, internships, and more. Our parks provide visitors with unique experiences as they explore the real Florid.
