Science Delivered, a nonprofit that promotes elementary science education, is seeking a new board member to serve in the role of Treasurer. We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate individual!

We are a small organization based in San Diego, with a branch in Virginia. Our work centers around elementary science and equitable education. Our cornerstone program provides in-class science labs which are grant-funded and provided to K-5 classrooms at no-cost. We work with over 1,000 students each year. (Currently labs are replaced with take-home science kits and lessons). We work with a small number of schools and have close relationships with them. Learn more about our work at Science-Delivered.org.

We run a STEM Trading Card program which provides diverse, modern STEM role models in the form of trading cards. You can learn about the project at STEMTradingCards.org.

We also run or participate in numerous other small programs or projects.

Requirements:
Our current board has substantial knowledge in education, STEM, and some business expertise. For the treasurer role we seek someone with a passion for education and equity, and knowledge in finance, accounting, and/or budgeting. (To learn about current board members, please go to the "About" page at Science-Delivered.org).

Treasurer Responsibilities:
The Treasurer is responsible for financial oversight and reporting, budgeting, and communicating the financial standing of the organization to the rest of the Board.

Time Commitment:
The board meets every other month for 90-minute meetings, with occasional special meetings. Board members will often help with special projects. The treasurer duties will add an additional 1-3 hours a month.

Financial Commitment: All board members are asked to make an annual donation that is significant to them.

Mission Statement

To provide engaging and accessible STEM activities
In the wrong hands, science can be dry and confusing. But presented in a different manner, science is exciting and inspiring. We aim to bring science to life for our students, especially those with limited educational opportunities.

To promote critical thinking and problem solving
Critical thinking is the most basic, yet also the most essential, aspect of science. Yet this skill does not always come naturally! We encourage our students to critically engage and explore the world around them.

To promote confidence and general well-being
We go beyond "traditional" STEM activities to engage with subjects such as nutrition and psychology. With healthy bodies and healthy minds kids can be free to learn, question and create.

To change ideas about who can be a scientist
Representation matters. Here we look to the FermiLabproject for inspiration. Through our presenters, volunteers, and science history activities, we aim to show the diverse group of people who've contributed to STEM knowledge.

Description

Science Delivered is a mobile lab that brings the field trip to you! We provide a range of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) classes for elementary school students.
