ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Utah & Nevada Region

logo

The American Red Cross provides sheltering and assistance to individuals displaced by apartment fires, wildfires, earthquakes, and other large scale disasters. Although the Utah & Nevada Region of the American Red Cross is in an area where large disasters are less common, they do occur. We have an urgent need for a leadership volunteer who wants to have a massive impact on the lives of others in our community by leading our Mass Care program. You will work closely with our team of paid-staff and volunteers to ensure we can deliver our mission. This position can be based anywhere in Utah or Nevada. Training is provided, and the time commitment is flexible.

After initial training, we would expect the time commitment to be roughly 15 hours per month, with more time required during large disaster sheltering efforts.

Key responsibilities:

Mass Care provides activities and services on a congregate basis to the community as a whole including feeding, sheltering, reunification, and distribution of emergency supplies. This position is responsible for the collaborative leadership of the Mass Care programs within the region including:

1. Oversee and supervise regional feeding leads, sheltering leads, distribution of emergency supplies leads, and reunification leads
2. Develop a plan for mass care services
3. Implement strategies, initiatives, processes and procedures that support the successful region wide day-to-day provision of Mass Care services
4. Develop and maintain relationships with local feeding, sheltering, distribution of emergency supplies, and reunification partners
5. Serve as the Red Cross subject matter expert (SME) and provide oversight for mass care at both local level as well as in the co-lead role of ESF-6 within the National Response Framework

Qualifications:

  • Ability to build and lead a team using a collaborative leadership style
  • Passion for the American Red Cross' humanitarian mission
  • Ability and willingness to complete required online and instructor-led training
