What is a Disaster Health Services Supervisor volunteer?
We are currently in need of volunteer leads with a MEDICAL LICENSE able to supervise a team of assigned shelter volunteers responding to sheltering needs able to respond to sheltering needs due to the current hurricane/wildfire season during COVID-19 and following COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Responsibilities:
Provide hands-on care for shelter clients to include but not limited to assistance with activities of daily living, wound care, incontinence care, assistance with functional needs.
Provide health education, health assessments, and determination if a higher level of care is needed.
Assist clients to replace medications, durable medical equipment or consumable medical supplies.
Advocate for client needs with Disaster Health Services supervisor.
Support maternal and child needs as necessary.
Complete required virtual self-paced training for the position (5 hours total)
Requirements:
A current, unencumbered license in at least one of the following professions:
Registered Nurse (RN)
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)*
Paramedic*
Medical Doctor (MD)
Doctor of Osteopathy (DO)
Physician Assistant (PA)
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Experience as a charge nurse, EMS team lead or physician
Minimum 18 years of age
Access to internet connectivity to take mandatory training and sign up for volunteer shifts
Willing and able to volunteer in person in a COVID -19 disaster shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event
Proficient in English (able to read/write and follow verbal/written communication)
Availability to sign up for shifts of your choice (shifts may be 4-12 hours long)
Willing to complete 5 hours of virtual self-paced training required for the position
Time Commitment:
Must be able to sign up to shifts (your choice of 4-12 hour shifts) during wildfire and hurricane season
Able to deploy where ACTIVE WILDFIRES or HURRICANES might be (travel will be provided if deployment is applicable)
