POSITION OVERVIEW

FarmSahel is committed to accelerate farming in Africa with a vision to creating a sustainable agricultural system by providing rural farmers, especially women farmers with agricultural equipment, supplies, and training to allow them to grow their own food supplies without dependence on developed countries.

DESCRIPTION

FarmSahel offers an unpaid internship to students, which runs from January 2021 to March 2021. This internship requires a minimum commitment of 14-21 hours per week. The entirety of the internship is remote. A travel stipend will be provided if any portion of the internship will require visiting donors and partners.

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Intern will assist in the creation and publication of communications content and campaigns that highlight FarmSahel’s priority areas and provide support in development activities to engage donors and funders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing newsletter content

  • Research and post news relevant to our mission to social media

  • Assist in drafting and editing graphic design projects for use across social media and other platforms

  • Set up and run social media campaigns to promote content, events, and programs

  • Assist program team with event planning and execution

  • Assist program team in developing creative ways to promote events and programs

  • Execute programmatic tasks, such as survey creation, distribution, and analysis, as well as research of and outreach to community partners and potential speakers as needed

  • Assist in fundraising and development efforts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing or completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree related to communications or journalism

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Facility with Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn

  • Experience creating outreach materials for both print and digital

  • A high degree of self-motivation, ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision, and work independently as well as function as a member of a team

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and be creative

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, flexible environment

FarmSahel collects used farm machinery donated by farmers in the United States and ships them to rural farmers in Africa, trains them in ecologically safe farming best practices. Farmsahel has developed a training model for agricultural education that encourages partnerships with US farmers to share their knowledge with our rural farmers. At Farmsahel we believe that farmer sponsorship has the power to drive change that ripples throughout farmers's lives, their families and their communities.
