Rental Research Team Member-
Volunteers make phone calls every month to participate in rental pet policy research. We will be selecting cities across the country to conduct research. The information collected will identify all-breed-friendly housing for families looking for rental accommodations that will welcome their dogs. With accurate information available, the goal is for no dog to be displaced from their family due to restrictive pet policies and to keep the family together safe at home. This information not only is included in our national database of non-discriminatory rentals - but is also shared with national organizations working on legislative efforts!

Each volunteer will be assigned approximately 20-40 apartments to research per month. Research assignments are distributed via email/GivePulse. Assuming 5 minutes per listing, the commitment for this project is approximately 2-3 hours per month.

Mission Statement

My Pit Bull is Family is a 501c-3 non-profit organization based in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a mission to keep families together by advancing dog-inclusive rental & insurance policies and providing essential pet retention programming. Our team focuses on having conversations with property management companies, conducting pet policy research studies, building relationships in the community and providing resources to keep families together. Additionally in 2019, we launched our North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center to support our local community. Our team of volunteer advocates assist pet loving community members with supplies and resources to help keep pets and their families together - at home.

Description

My Pit Bull is Family was founded in 2011 by a landlord in Minneapolis, MN who realized that her properties were among the few that accepted Pit Bull Type Dogs. After she removed breed and weight restrictions in her properties, she adopted her first Pit Bull Type dog named Tate (left) and later Persia (right). Through her passion to promote inclusive pet policies - a campaign to end housing and insurance discrimination was started. Through a team of volunteers in Minneapolis and around the country, bumper stickers were shared and displayed by supporters. This campaign lead the volunteers to create a housing database of rentals that accept Pit Bull Type Dogs.

In 2014, Shannon Glenn joined the campaign and moved forward with creating a non-profit organization, My Pit Bull is Family. Since 2014, the organization has grown through increasing volunteers in Minneapolis and around the country, has attended events both locally and nationally, managing the Nation’s largest database of rentals that accept all dogs, created the North Minneapolis Pet Resource Center and is viewed as a leader in animal welfare.
