SUMMARY:
211/LIFE LINE is a Mission Program of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes that provides crisis/suicide hotline and information & referral program offering crisis intervention, needs assessment, and referrals to health and human services organizations that can assist with those identified needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Help save a life. The Core Crisis Chat Volunteer will use our web-based platform to provide support to individuals in crisis. Volunteers will answer and document chats and texts from our National Suicide Prevention Lifeline(NSPL) Core Chat Services. Volunteers will assist chatters at risk for suicide following established policy, protocol, and procedure. Volunteers must comply with the organization’s confidently policy as well as all other polices.
- Volunteer must be able to model agency values at all times.
- Volunteer must commit to being scheduled for one(1) three(3) hour volunteer shift a week, you may volunteer more
- Volunteer must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Internet Navigation.
- Volunteer must have experience and/or interest in the human service field and/or lived experience with suicide (attempt and survivor).
- Volunteer must maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
- Volunteer must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
- Individual must be a self-directed and able to take the initiative in follow-up and resolution of daily issues.
- Individual must be innovative, forward thinker - able to think outside the box.
- Volunteer must have a desire for continuous learning and be open to feedback.
- Volunteer must pass a background check
- Volunteer must report their hours on a weekly basis to the volunteer coordinator.
- To Volunteer remotely, volunteer must have computer and high speed internet

- Orientation or Training
- Volunteers must attend a virtual Volunteer orientation that is 1 hours long. We are asking for volunteers to commit to 1 shift a week. The shifts are aprx 3 hours long between the times of 9-5:30 Monday-Sunday.
- For the moment, this is a remote volunteer opportunity that requires a home computer and access to a strong internet connection. We do provide all of the training.
