Quick Overview: Hand in hand with BTH staff and our homeless neighbors at the shelter, Bridge to Home Shelter Corps members provide educational resources, life-skills development, and other developmental skills and activities that assist in providing the foundation for a safe shelter and moving from homelessness to housing.
Impact: When clients are able to engage in a variety of opportunities and activities that stimulate their mind and learn a useful skill, it will empower them to continue gaining valuable experiences being offered. When they are able to connect with community members and volunteers, they will also feel a sense of being valued, boosting their confident and building their self-esteem.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities:
Work with the Activities Coordinator and BTH staff to provide valuable ideas and input for engaging and useful activities for the shelter residents.
Assist in the scheduling of activities when needed.
Encourage and engage clients and guests to participate in the provided opportunities.
Work one on one or in small groups with clients to provide encouragement, conversation, or wholesome companionship interactions pertaining to appropriate topics (school, work, family, hobbies, etc.).
Provide an engaging opportunity among residents, clients, and staff such as a coffee hour, puzzle assembly, or playing table games (scrabble, cards, etc.).
Demonstrate sensitivity on current events and how they may affect the client's engagement.
Inventory any materials that are needed or used for scheduled activities and report it to the Shelter Manager.
Using positive methods, encourage clients as they proceed through the steps of the housing process.
Share any valuable community resources with staff and clients that will support any current client needs.
Be mindful of clients' current goals and aspirations, following up with the steps in their process to reach these milestones and support their journey.
Requirements:
Must be over 18 years of age
Have two (2) character references dated within the past 12 months
Be able to commit to a minimum of two (2) hours per week
Must pass a background check
COVID-19 Precautions: For safety purposes, upon entry into any facility for Bridge to Home, each person will be required to:
wear a mask
wash their hands
submit to a temperature check
We can provide additional PPE such as gloves upon request.
While on any premises or property of the organization, each person will be required to:
wash their hands frequently
remain six feet apart from other individuals
wear a mask at all times
change PPE as often as needed in order to be safe

Mission Statement
BRIDGE TO HOME PROVIDES SHELTER AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES THAT HELP INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THE SANTA CLARITA VALLEY MOVE FROM HOMELESSNESS TO HOUSING.
Description
We have three departments that currently have volunteer opportunities - Housing Corps, Shelter Corps, and Office Corps. We have several opportunities within these departments that meet specific program and organizational needs. Our focus is on assistance with housing our clients as well as engaging and creating opportunities for our clients to be productive community members. We strive to create connections with community resources in order to provide options and events for our clientele to participate and actively engage in their path to successfully obtaining housing and contributing to the community.
