We are looking for a volunteer to help us draft, organize, and advise changes to our existing HR policies and frameworks. The HR Specialist’s responsibilities will include assisting staff revise policies to reflect COVID-19 contingency procedures, and ensuring agency compliance with all relevant local, county, state, federal, and labor laws and regulations. A successful HR Specialist should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a solid knowledge of labor legislation, and a minimum of 2 years experience. Candidates should possess a professional and resourceful demeanor, the ability to work both independently and as a team player, and a desire to take initiative and manage numerous projects simultaneously. This position can be fulfilled partly remotely and the volunteer can choose their own schedule, given reliable communication with executive directors, relevant managers, and the volunteer coordinator.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Help develop, implement, support, and review HR department initiatives, policies, procedures, and systems
Assist in the communication and administration of health and safety programs
Explain human resources policies, procedures, laws, and standards to new and existing employees
Cultivate training and development programs
Utilize a perceptive eye to the careful monitoring of working conditions to ensure legal compliance
Minimum 2 years of prior Human Resources experience
Successful work experience as a Human Resources Specialist, officer, administrator or other HR position
Strong working knowledge of HR functions and procedures (e.g. pay and benefits, recruitment, training, and development)
Commitment to staying current on the understanding of labor laws and disciplinary procedures
Must present a professional appearance and a friendly manner
Must be dependable and punctual
Respect and maintain confidentiality of Straight Talk Clinic’s volunteers, partners, and donors
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal, supervision, administration and management skills
Ability to work with diverse groups of people
This position provides the opportunity for hands-on human resource experience for a nonprofit organization and mental health counseling center. Candidates can look forward to building mentor relationships and shadowing experienced, knowledgeable clinicians and program managers. Straight Talk Clinic’s sliding-fee scale, evening and weekend hours counseling programs address the special needs of low-income groups including children, adolescents, parents, couples, and seniors.
