About National Service Animals Monument

Mission Statement

To create public awareness and community support for service animals and their handlers by creating the first of its kind Nationa Service Animals Monument. To use the international symbol of the Purple Poppy as a fundraising tool for the monument and other organizations that support and promote service animals and animals in need of a forever home.

We are an organization based in San Francisco, originally known as Critter Lovers at Work (CLAW). For over 30 years we have worked to support animal organizations through community events and educational programs.

Our focus going forward is to raise awareness and support for all service animals by creating the first National Monument dedicated to all service animals and their handlers who have sacrificed their lives and continue to work to ensure our safety and freedom. These include animals from the military, law enforcement, search and rescue, and companion animals.

People of all ages and backgrounds will have a place of pride to come together in celebration of the great work our service animals and their handlers have done, do and will continue to do for us. The monument (and Purple Poppy) will also foster unity in our community and to the country as a whole. Animals have an amazing way of opening up people’s hearts and helping to raise awareness and support.

The monument will be interactive with the development of an app that can be used by school children and educators to learn about the vital roles animals have played and the importance of the human-animal bond. The Purple Poppy(r) will offer fundraising opportunities to organizations as well as raise the funds needed for the monument.
