We are looking for a volunteer to lead the identification of and application for grants that secure direct support for our clients and programs. The Grant Writer will also be responsible for researching the agency’s qualification for grants, managing proposals, and maintaining a donor database. They will work in close coordination with senior managers and members of our executive team. The Grant Writer should be an experienced, motivated, and passionate individual with a demonstrable record of grant writing success. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, a professional and resourceful demeanor, the ability to work both independently and as a team player, and a desire to take initiative and manage numerous projects simultaneously. This position can be fulfilled partly remotely and the volunteer can choose their own schedule, given reliable communication with executive directors, relevant managers, and the volunteer coordinator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research and identify grant opportunities based on funding amount needed, location, and organization project
  • Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities - including deadline dates, required materials, etc
  • Successfully understand and communicate mission and vision of company applying for the grant
  • Maintain chart of grant applications: including grants applied to, status of application, grant deadline
  • Identify all requirements of grant to ensure all necessary attachments are submitted on time
  • Prioritize grants to apply for (based on size of grant and time funding is released)


  • Must present a professional appearance and a friendly manner
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality of Straight Talk Clinic’s volunteers, partners, and donors
  • Demonstrated experience in obtaining grants from non-profits, charities, and other philanthropic organizations
  • Experience with sourcing opportunities, cold-calling, contact development, and business relationship management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, email marketing, and CRM tools


  • This position provides the opportunity for hands-on grant writing experience for a nonprofit organization and a mental health counseling center. Candidates can look forward to building mentor relationships and shadowing experienced, knowledgeable clinicians and program managers. We offer our volunteers the opportunity to learn new skills, explore your passion, and most importantly, give something back to your local community. Volunteers are highly valued members of the STC team as we believe our volunteers have a significant impact in helping achieve STC's mission. STC will provide reference letters for all volunteers who successfully complete a placement with us.
